Leaving Egypt: From Captive to Conqueror

Today’s age is stressful and we’re seeing higher instances of substance abuse than ever before. Together we can help break free from the vices of addictive behavoirs and live victoriously.

Wilderness MENistry and City of Refuge, Calhoun are parterning up to help individuals and families transition out of substance abuse and into thriving, Christ-centered relationships.

About the Event

“I have surely seen [your] affliction and I am aware of [your] sufferings. I have come to deliver [you] from your [captivity] and to bring [you] up from that place to a place of life abundance." - Exodus 3:7-8

Leaving Egypt (LE) Challenge

Join us from May 1 - 31, 2022 and hike to be free! This event has a dual purpose: to help you experience nature unplugged and to raise money to provide support for individuals and families struggling with substance abuse. It's a win win!

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

  • Register beginning April 1.

  • Sign-up as an individual or as a team.

  • Between May 1 - May 31, get hiking!

  • Join us for hikes in-person around Gordon County or hike your favorite trails wherever you’re located.

  • Every Saturday during the month of May we’ll be hiking trails across Gordon County. Join our free hikes to log extra miles and connect with others.

  • Log your miles daily or weekly directly through our site

  • Celebrate your achievements and experience the benefits of time in nature unplugged!

How to Donate:

Click the white button labeled “Donate” at the top of the page. Before you continue, you'll need to decide if you'd like to support an individual hiker, a team of hikers, or make a general donation.

To donate to the event, you'll click the green "Make a general donation" button. Choose a recommended donation amount or enter a custom amount.

To donate to an individual hiker, you'll type their name into the search bar and click the green "Continue" button. For individual hikers, you'll have the choice to make a pledge per mile (recommended dollar amounts will be automatically generated for you based on the individual’s or team’s total estimated miles) or to make a one-time flat donation.

To donate to a team of hikers, you'll type their team name into the search bar and click the green "Continue" button. You can also donate to an individual hiker who is also on a team. That donation will count toward both the individual's fundraising goal, and the team's larger fundraising goal.

Please Note: Wilderness MENistry is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status and your donation will be tax exempt.

How to Join the Hike:

Step 1: Guestimate how many miles you’ll hike/walk for the month of May, that becomes your pledged amount that you’ll list when you register. Whether it's 5, 20 or 100 miles, there's no amount too big or small!

  • Think you can do 2 miles per day? That's approximately 60 miles for the month

  • Does 5-10 miles/week sound like a good goal? That's anywhere from 20-40 miles for the month

  • Trail hiking is great, but be sure to include urban walks too!

  • Are you a runner? Good news! Those miles count too.

Step 2: Register for our event beginning April 1.

Step 3: Reach out to friends and family to ask if they’ll support your efforts by sponsoring you! Recommended dollar amounts will be automatically generated for them based on your pledged miles (but make sure they know they can list any amount they’d like!).

Step 4: Download the AllTrails App to discover new trails nearby! If you live in the North Georgia area, we've got a curated list of trails that will help you experience nature unplugged:

Step 5: Between May 1 - May 31, get hiking!

Step 6: Submit your final miles for the month of May by June 5, 2022. Celebrate your achievements and enjoy the benefits of time spent in nature unplugged!

Step 7: All participants who meet the minimum threshold ($100 raised and 10 miles logged) will be entered into a drawing for our grand prize—the award-winning and elusive Second Generation X-Mid 1P Tent! Other prizes for a variety of categories will also be awarded the week of June 15th.
