Dungeons and Derby and Dogs
A fundraser for Burning River Roller Derby and City Dogs!
Derby Magic in Cleveland Heights, Ohio!
On June 13th at 12pm, Burning River Roller Derby will be hosting Divergence Roller Derby in a bout against their very own Pyromaniacs at the Cleveland Heights Community Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio! Afterwards there will be a fundraiser scrimmage, the likes of which you have never seen before: Dungeons and Derby and Dogs! During this scrimmage, the audience will be able to participate by purchasing spells to cast against the team of their choice. For example, a spell may force all the blockers on one team to start in the penalty box. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to CITY DOGS, the adoption and volunteer program for Cleveland Animal Care and Control.
Important details:
-To sign up, skaters must have passed basic skills at their home league, have WFTDA insurance (or reciprocal insurance) and fall under the WFTDA Gender Statement.
-There will be 25 jams per half that are 60 seconds each with no lead jammer status assigned. This is to ensure audience spells have time to take effect before a jam ends!
-Though game timing structure and lead jammer status are being altered for this bout, and audiences may cast spells to affect the game, officials will be enforcing all other game structure and contact rules.
-Benches will be expanded to 20 skaters per team to let plenty of folx participate. Burning River will provide each team with a bench coach to ensure players are rotating appropriately. Burning River will also provide a track coach who will wear the “A” and have a walky-talky to the announcers table where spells will be cast. This way they will be able to quickly communicate the impact of spell casting to their skaters
Registration for this scrimmage is $30, which includes a unisex t-shirt with name and numbers on the back. You will receive your shirt at check-in on the day of the event and be able to cut and alter it as you wish within WFTDA safety guidelines. If you typically wear sleeves with numbers, we encourage you to bring your own iron-ons and iron or fabric pens to write your numbers. Skaters are also able to wear boutfits and flair that follows WFTDA standards and will not fall off or pose a hazard to anyone during gameplay.
There are 20 slots available for external skaters. After you have paid for your individual registration here, you will receive an email receipt of purchase. This email will contain a link to a google form where you can input your t-shirt info and answer questions about your skating level, experience and insurance status. Burning River will be making every effort to ensure that teams are drafted in a manner that is fair and competitive. Once received, we ask that you fill out the form as quickly as possible with a hard deadline of May 1st.
