Help Fund a Future For Birds

New Hope Bird Alliance is excited to welcome our community to participate in our New Hope Birdathon! Grab your binoculars, gather your friends, and get ready to bird this April 23-26 to see how many species you can find while raising funds for New Hope Bird Alliance. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help expand our organization's capacity and hire our first paid staff, an Executive Director. This will enable us to amplify our educational and conservation efforts, bringing our passion for birds to a broader audience in the Triangle. The situation for birds and wildlife is deteriorating at an unsustainable pace, but together, we can make a difference. Your support will help us achieve our goals and ensure a brighter future for our feathered friends.

Birds need our help. Birds need new hope. Join the New Hope Birdathon and make your birding count.

How to Participate

  • Join a team - Contribute to an existing team and go birding as a group. Any donations you gather from friends, family, etc. will contribute to the team goal.

  • Start a team - Band together with friends, coworkers, etc., pick a fun team name, and combine forces for good!

  • Participate on your own or with family and friends

  • Support one of our Birdathon teams by making a donation in their honor

How It Works

The birdathon is like a walk-a-thon style fundraiser, but instead of logging miles, participants are logging bird sightings! You can support New Hope Bird Alliance's local bird conservation and education efforts by birding for the cause or donating to a team. Donors can give a flat donation (e.g. $50) or a per-bird donation (e.g. $1 per species seen).

Individuals and teams can participate anytime from April 23-26 and donations are accepted from March 23 to May 31. All skill levels are welcome to join!

How, when, and where you bird is up to you, as long as it is within our tri-county area (Chatham, Durham, or Orange counties). Both novice and expert birders can have fun and make a difference in protecting birds - the Birdathon is for everyone!

Step 1: Register!

Individuals and teams are invited to participate. General registration is $25 and student registration is $10. All participants will receive a customizable fundraising page you can share with friends, family, and supporters. We ask that all participants register regardless if you're birding solo or as part of a team.

Step 2: Share your fundraising page to collect donations and pledges!

Your donors can support you with a flat donation or they can pledge per bird species you find! For example, if a donor pledges $1 per bird and you report 100 bird species, that's a $100 donation.

Step 3: GO BIRDING!

Birding can happen anytime between April 23 and April 26 but must take place in Durham, Chatham, and Orange Counties only. You will be able to post updates to your fundraising page throughout the event, sharing with your supporters about your birding adventure and what species you found.
