Honorary Family

Hilger Family

The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) has been an extraordinary source of support for our family, and we are deeply grateful for the impact it has had on our son, Louie.  When we first began attending MMI, Louie was fairly nonverbal and receiving speech therapy during the challenging circumstances of COVID. His speech-language pathologist met him with patience and understanding—following Louie’s lead while still gently encouraging him toward meaningful, back-and-forth interaction. Those early sessions laid a foundation that changed the course of his communication and confidence.

As Louie has grown, MMI’s camps have continued to be a remarkable extension of that support. The counselors and volunteers have become more like family, meeting Louie exactly where he is in his abilities and celebrating who he is. Thanks to the thoughtfully designed facility and the accepting, enthusiastic environment, Louie not only enjoys attending camp—he now asks to go. Whether it’s a summer camp or a Saturday morning program, MMI provides him a place where he feels understood, engaged, and genuinely happy.

Beyond the services and programs, MMI has also given our family something equally meaningful: a community. The parents we’ve met through MMI are compassionate, accepting, and deeply empathetic. Being surrounded by others who understand our journey has brought us comfort, connection, and a sense of belonging we truly cherish.

We are profoundly grateful for everything MMI has given to our son and our family. Thank you for the dedication, love, and expertise you pour into the lives of the children and families you serve.

TAYLER

Tayler has been attending MMI since her early teens and she absolutely loves it. It’s her favorite place to go because she can always be herself: silly and happy. Tayler is incredibly social, so MMI gives her the opportunity to be with peers and enjoy a night out, a concert, cooking with friends, swimming, dancing and shopping. When Tayler was a toddler we weren’t sure if she’d ever talk, so seeing her open up and become more vocal, confident and conversational with all of the staff and peers at MMI is a gift every day.

From Tayler: I love the staff and hanging out with all of the buddies. I like the game room and going out and doing stuff with friends. I love Erin and Savanah and Nick when he says “not necessarily”
