My Purpose for the Campaign

I am elevating my body (with pushups) to regain lost health and fitness and to raise funds for the National Fabry Disease Foundation (NFDF) to sustain and improve the many programs and services the NFDF provides to people with Fabry disease and their families.

As the founder and president of the NFDF, I am eager to do what I can to increase NFDF funding that helps people with Fabry disease live better and longer and support their families on their journeys.

Background: I am a 70-year-old male (in November) with classic Fabry disease. I had a heart transplant in September of 2020 due to progressive heart failure caused by Fabry disease. Progressive heart failure, among other disease manifestations, caused years of chronic fatigue, weakness, loss of muscle mass, strength, and stamina, and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Fabry disease has also caused 20 years of chronic kidney disease stage 3, and a low of 50% of normal lung function but improving.

After 22 years of 3-1/2 to 6 hours of intravenous enzyme replacement therapy every ten days to two weeks and then after a heart transplant four years ago that provides more blood and oxygen to my body, I am attempting to improve my health and fitness and honor the gift I was given.

My goal is to do 1,000 push-ups in sets of 10 from now until the last day of our upcoming Fabry Family Camp on October 20, 2024.

Please make a generous pledge per pushup or a fixed donation, and wish me luck (and strength)!

As always, I proudly serve the Fabry community,

Thank you for your generous support!
