Advocacy Day 2026

Advocacy Day is the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut's annual opportunity for the epilepsy community to come together and make their voices heard at the State Capitol. The day brings together people living with epilepsy, their families, caregivers, and allies for a morning of updates, shared stories, and practical advocacy training, followed by afternoon meetings with their own state legislators. For the 36,000 Connecticut residents living with epilepsy, these conversations are more than civic engagement; they are a chance to put a human face on the policies that shape their daily lives. When lawmakers hear directly from their constituents, things change. That is why we show up.

Advocacy Day 2026 - April 8

We hope you’ll join us for the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut's Advocacy Day on Wednesday, April 8th, at the Capitol Building in Hartford. This is one of the most meaningful things we do all year, and it only works because people like you are willing to show up and share your story.

How to Prepare for Advocacy Day

The afternoon will bring us together as a community, with updates from EFCT, remarks from advocates who have walked the halls of the Capitol on our behalf, and practical tips from a legislative aide on how to make the most of your conversations with lawmakers. You'll also receive a copy of our legislation guide, which outlines the key bills we're focused on this session and what's at stake for people living with epilepsy in Connecticut.

Then, in the afternoon, it's your turn.

Meeting with Your Legislators

The heart of Advocacy Day is your one-on-one time with your own state legislators. These conversations matter, and you don't need to be a policy expert to have one. You just need to be yourself and share what life with epilepsy looks like for you or your loved one. That's something no lobbyist can do.

Here's how to find and contact your legislators before the event:

Step 1: Find your legislators. Visit the CT General Assembly's legislator lookup tool at: https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/cgafindleg.asp

Enter your home address, and you'll see your State Senator and State Representative listed by name, district, and contact information.

Step 2: Reach out ahead of time. We encourage you to contact your legislators' offices before Advocacy Day to let them know you'll be attending and request a brief meeting. You can call or email their office directly. A simple message works perfectly:

"Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME], and I am a constituent from [YOUR TOWN]. I will be attending the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut's Advocacy Day on [DATE] and would love the opportunity to meet briefly with [LEGISLATOR NAME] or a member of their staff. Please let me know if that's possible."

Step 3: Come prepared. Don't worry about having all the answers. We'll have our legislation guide on hand, and our team will be there to support you throughout the day. Your personal experience is your most powerful tool.

If you have any questions before the event, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help you feel ready and confident.
