Support Colorado's Pinyon Jay!
I'm excited to join this incredible fundraising event to support Pinyon Jay conservation in Colorado!
The Colorado Birding Challenge was created to provide an annual flow of funds to support specific bird conservation projects. This year's challenge funds will primarily support the determination of breeding colony locations and the critical surrounding habitat for Pinyon Jays. From 1967–2015, the population levels of Pinyon Jays fell by an estimated 83.5%. Identifying these areas is critical for long-term habitat management and protection.
Please consider donating to support Pinyon Jay conservation in Colorado!

Jay Breidt, David Wade and Nick Komar enjoyed a relaxing day on bikes gliding downhill from the top of Rist Canyon for first 15 miles or so, and then some pedaling for about 25 additional miles mostly along the Poudre River bike trail with excursions to City Park area and CSU campus and Nix Natural Area. Special thanks to Monica Lynn for dropping us at the start location at 5 AM and providing a delicious meal for us at 6:30 PM. We ended the day at 10 PM at Running Dear Natural Area being serenaded by a belching American Bittern. We got started about 30 minutes later than planned so missed the nocturnal birds at Rist canyon. Highlights included Dusky Grouse crossing the road, a calling Goshawk, Blackpoll Warbler and nesting pair of Black Phoebe at Bingham Hill Cemetary, flock of migrants near City Park that included Hooded Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Orchard Oriole, Rose-breasted Grosbeak and more. Semipalmated and Stilt Sandpipers at Nix Natural Area, and American Bittern at Running Deer Natural Area. The team tallied 131 species. Special thanks to all our supporters. Donations for Pinyon Jay conservation may be accepted thru May 31.
