Heart Failure and heart transplants change lives forever. Patients and their families face overwhelming emotional and financial burdens—from lifelong medical care to the stress of simply making ends meet.

That's why I'm lacing up for the HeartBrothers' Virtual 5K and raising money to help provide financial aid, emotional support, and resources to Heart Failure and transplant patients in need.

Heading out for the final walk for the HeartBrothers 3rd Annual 5K run / walk. Yesterday we hiked in the Dead Horse Rance State Park in Cottonwood, AZ. In addition I took a short walk into Town in the early morning. I am up to 40 miles for the week before today. Last night we took a 4 hour train ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad which did not disappoint. More to come.....

Thursday we walked in Saguaro National Park in Tuscon AZ. Very hot with limited options so we chose a 2 mile hike up Kings Canyon and back down on a drainage wash (dry river bed). Look up the park. They are famous for the Saguaro Cactus. I'll attach some pictures.

Today we started out in Las Cruces, New Mexico. We had a small repair scheduled for the coach which took longer than expected. Once we did get started we only got about 50 miles before the highway was closed due to a severe wind storm. We decided to hang out here and caught up on phone calls and paperwork.

My walk was only 1.8 miles today. The area was not really conducive to walking so a short version today.

In the morning we head to Tuscon, AZ where I'm sure there will be plenty of trails to walk.

Today we are in White Sands National Park. We did 2 hikes here today for a total of 6.85 miles. We just got back to our coach and received road closures and high winds advisory warnings. I guess that is why the air is so murky.

Anyway, we are making progress on our 8 day commitment to walk 30 miles and raise $5,000. for the HeartBrothers Foundation. The work is important, and we are helping thousands of people navigate their heart failure journey through education, support groups, very low cost temporary housing at our 2 apartments in downtown Boston and financial aid where appropriate.

Day 3 of the 3rd Annual 5K Heartwalk for the HeartBrothers Foundation. My hike today was just over 5 miles. I hiked the trail to Pratt Cabin in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Hot, sunny and remote are the 3 words for this hike. Tomorrow we move on to White Sands National Park in New Mexico. Along with another hike we plan to take saucers down the white sand dunes. Should be fun!
