We're the Carter Crew!

Our son Elliott (who is now 8 years old) was diagnosed with classical HCU at age 2.5 after suffering seizures, blood clots in the brain, and a stroke. Thankfully, a diagnosis saved his life - we were able to start life-saving treatment in the hospital and today, Elliott is thriving!

Life isn't easy, though. Elliott must follow a very strict low-protein diet (13 grams/day), take a medical formula and supplements, all which work to keep him out of risk for reocurrance of the danergerous and life-threating symptoms that he experienced as a toddler. Our biggest hope is that research for HCU continue, so that there are better treatment options that allow Elliott to live a much more normal life! Your participation and support throughout the Race for Research will help to make that a reality!

I'm participating in the 6th Annual HCU Race for Research, a virtual event! By being an HCU Hero, I desire to help spread hope in the lives of approximately 1 in 200,000 patients with HCU.

HCU Network America is a national 501c3 that provides tools, resources, and educational events, to patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers for those in the Homocystinurias (HCU) community. They also have a strong mission to improve upon newborn screening for the homocystinurias and fund research.
