Participating in Murmurations for Mutual Aid: A Female Bird Day Birdathon
May 26-29, 2023
My Mission
I'm excited to be a part of this Female Bird Day Birdathon! Our community is coming together to celebrate and highlight female birds as part of Female Bird Day, while simultaneously fundraising for another often overlooked and vulnerable population in our community—those seeking asylum.
Please help me reach my goal by leaving a flat donation or making a pledge to support my birding efforts in this inclusive campaign. Your support will help provide funding for critical life expenses for asylum seekers in the United States. Thank you for considering!

I spent today seeking out species that were glaring omissions on my birdathon list. I started the day at North Point State Park for wood ducks, pileated woodpeckers, and Caspian terns, finished with a nesting yellow-crowned night-heron at the Jones Falls rookery, and looked for missing warblers, red-tailed hawk, and belted kingfisher in between. I added 13 species to my list today, for a final total of 120 species! I'm working on a full writeup on my trip report, but for now, please enjoy this photo of a hooded warbler, a species I've previously only heard but decided to show off for me today! Thank you everyone for your support!

Yesterday I helped lead a walk for Feminist Bird Club DMV! We all got to practice our flycatcher identification, and I added 7 species to my list!

Today I added 25 species to my list, reaching my initial goal of 100 species found! The coolest bird I saw today is the Mississippi kite. Their range is expanding northward, and this is the second year they've been at this sports complex just south of Baltimore. They catch insects with their talons right out of the air and eat them while they're flying! Photos of this behavior (plus a black-crowned night heron eating another bird whole...) are up on the trip report: https://ebird.org/tripreport/133529

Thank you all for donating!! Highlights of the day include recently hatched American oystercatcher chicks, a great horned owl, and my lifer black tern. The photos are up on the eBird trip report: https://ebird.org/tripreport/133529
I'm back in Baltimore now and recharging for another day of birding!
