My Mission

My name is Hannah and I love birds! There's nothing more exciting than identifying a new bird and, after moving around in the US my entire life, I've had the opportunity to see so much diversity among birds. I'm excited to help the Golden Gate Audubon Society with this fundraiser. The conservation work done by the Audubon Society is very important to me and I'm proud to help them make a difference. Please support me by giving to my page. Every dollar counts! Thank you!

I didn't get any new bird species this week, but I did figure out why the Nuttall's woodpeckers - and all the other birds - abandoned the nest cavity. The nest cavity had weakened the tree branch making it so that it cracked. We had to have someone come yesterday to cut down that branch because it was a danger. Oh well. Tomorrow is the last day of the Birdathon so this will be my last update - UNLESS I get a new bird tomorrow! I'll always keep looking! Thank you for supporting my page throughout the fundraiser.

This week I only saw one new bird species:

Cliff Swallow

I saw many of them nesting in the eaves of a roof near the soccer field where my brother plays. They make a really cool sound! Near the same soccer field, I saw a Killdeer chick run out from under its parent - SUPER CUTE! I also have a pair of Western Bluebirds nesting in my backyard in a birdbox that I made! They've been very busy. So much going on this week! Thanks for supporting my page!

Hooray! This week I reached my new goal of seeing 100 species! I went backpacking at Point Reyes National Seashore and saw lots of new birds! Here they are:

Osprey

Wilson's Warbler

Whimbrel

Surf Scoter

Common Loon

Rufous Hummingbird

Marsh Wren

Black-chinned Hummingbird

Sanderling

This brings me up to 101 bird species! Oh by the way, that Nuttall's Woodpecker nest in our front yard got abandoned. There were pairs of Western Bluebirds, Downy Woodpeckers, Acorn Woodpeckers, as well as the Nuttall's all wanting the same spot. They all ended up abandoning it in the end. Too bad! Thanks for supporting my page!

I only saw one new bird species this week, but it was one I don't see very often. Here it is:

White-tailed Kite

I'm going backpacking at Point Reyes National Seashore this week so I hope to see more new shorebird species to add to my list! I'm pretty close to 100! Thanks for supporting my page!

I went to Pinnacles National Park over the weekend which is why my update is a little late - sorry! But I guarantee it's worth the wait! I saw 33 bird species at Pinnacles including 10 new bird species that I've never seen before! I was especially excited to see the California Condor in the wild. It was huge with its 9.5 foot wingspan! Here are all the species I saw this week.

Fox Sparrow

Cedar Waxwing

White-throated Sparrow

House Sparrow

Eurasian Collared Dove

White-throated Swift

California Condor

Peregrine Falcon

Ash-throated Flycatcher

Yellow-billed Magpie

Wrentit

Violet-green Swallow

Blue-grey Gnatcatcher

House Wren

California Thrasher

Brewer's Blackbird

Yellow Warbler

Townsend's Warbler

Now that I'm at 91 species seen, my new goal is to find 100 species of birds! Thanks for supporting my page!
