My Birdathon Adventure

Less than a week to go for the CEC Birdathon!

Please consider donating to the Cope Environmental Center in Indiana to support their work. Our team is covering over a half dozen U.S. states and Mexico, and I am back in Switzerland after a fabulous trip to the Camargue in southern France.

I will provide a link to a Lightroom album of my favorite photos taken during the birdathon to anybody who donates. Thank you!

We started the birdathon with a short trip to the Camargue in southern France, one of the top places to go birdwatching in Europe. It more than met our expectations, with the highlight obviously being the Greater Flamingos. We finished with 103 species, a very good showing.

The Southwest corner of Switzerland, by contrast, was nowhere near as species-rich, but after checking out a number of places on both Lake Geneva and Lake Neuchatel, two of Switzerland’s largest lakes, I ended up with 67 species for my efforts.

With overlap between the two countries, I ended up with 127 species. While that is under my goal, I learned a lot about some beautiful places in both countries, and came back with plenty of memories and photographs to share.
