Compassion is a core value of Macalester Football. It is our goal to build a team of service-oriented individuals who actively work to minimize the suffering of those around them.

Each day we are all surrounded by suffering - some forms more obvious and visible than others. Through coincidence (or divine intervention), I had the privilege of meeting with a fellow Macalester employee who had experienced a stillbirth several years ago. To be totally transparent, I didn't think much of our conversation at the time. Like many tragedies we see/hear about on a daily basis, I felt sympathetic for a few moments but moved on rather quickly. I felt powerless! Truthfully, I didn't know much about stillbirths and felt very far removed from being able to help in any way.

When this initiative was brought to my attention, I felt immediately empowered. How unique (and awesome) it is for on-field success to have life-saving implications.

We at Macalester are so excited to participate in Every Kick Counts for the 2022 season. As a husband who hopes to become a father in the coming years, I have spent time over the past few weeks thinking about the heartbreak of a stillbirth. There is a heartbreaking story behind each and every stillbirth. But on the other side of the spectrum, there is so much beauty in each "Baby Save".
