This year, I will be raising money for the Bird Alliance from both coasts. Between now and May 15th, I'll be scouring the Bay Area to SEE and PHOTOGRAPH at least 150 species of birds!
I'm excited to help raise money in support of the Golden Gate Bird Alliance's mission to inspire people to protect Bay Area birds. It is something very important to me, both as a Board member and bird lover.

#151 (150 for CA birds). GOAL ATTAINED!!!!!
This is also another very special bird (which we don't always get to see here in the Bay) that comes with a special donation from a special friend who loves gulls!!!!
I shall end this photographic fund-raising journey as life pulls me in another direction. I am grateful for each dollar of every donation made. This has been a wonderful experience for me and one that I was fortunate to share with a variety of people along the way.

I reached 150 birds photographed (all from California), however, I received a special request from a special friend for a special bird on a recent trip to Florida. This bird would receive an extra donation to Bird-A-Thon, so I thought it fitting that IT should be #150.

So close! This continues to be quite an experience. I've learned that birding can be stressful (which I am not a fan of), but this has also forced me to be very focused (if not a bit obsessive compulsive!). The best part has been finding birds with friends and also having them help find where I can look for various species. There is such a wealth of knowledge that can be tapped. Looking forward to #150 and beyond (though my goal is to improve upon various species photos between now and May 15th).

COWBIRD!
I admit, not many would be as excited as I was to find this singing Brown-headed cowbird at the Albany Bulb. This marks bird #143! Only 7 more to go! The best part? I have surpassed my $1500 fundraising goal. I am continuing to scour the Bay Area for the remaining birds, and it is not easy. I welcome the challenge. Stay tuned!

SORA!!!! #140!!!!
I hiked 8 miles today around Briones and the Briones Reservoir. I added seven species to my 'photographed birds' list. This has been such an adventure. I'm learning, remembering, and just enjoying every second outside exploring. I feel grateful and lucky to live here and have so many amazing birds just a few miles away.
