Day 74: 40 miles from Livingston to Woodville, TX

Started with Sunday Mass and a blessing. One long, loud road to Woodville, but grateful for the wide shoulder most of the way.

Felt worn out by the end of the day.

Ended the day with a warm meal and a safe place to stay.

Day 72: rest day waiting out a severe thunderstorm and flooding

Day 73: 34 miles to Livingston, TX

Back on the road from near New Waverly toward Livingston. Felt good to be moving again in the sunshine, fresh air, and tall green trees.

I had my sights set on making the 5:30 vigil Mass. Pushed hard all day to get there. But a wrong turn and a dead end cost me just enough time to miss it. That one stung. A lot of frustration, especially with busy roads and cars flying by with no shoulder.

Finished with a warm meal and then finding out a stranger had already paid for it.

Grateful for these reminders that God is taking care of me.

Day 71: 25 miles (Sam Houston National Forest past New Waverly)

Late start, but made it count. Knocked out 25 miles in about 5 hours starting from Sam Houston National Forest and pushing past New Waverly.

Busy roads through the forest (way more traffic than expected) tested my patience and I had to keep choosing calm over frustration and just stay focused. Took a wrong turn, added a mile, but kept moving.

Ended the day on a completely different note. Had some good company with a family, a great meal, and an awesome high school musical performance.

Day 70: 35 miles from Navasota to Sam Houston National Forest, TX

Started in Navasota with low spirits. It was rainy, I felt tired, and honestly just homesick.

Miles of narrow shoulder, constant worries, and not much energy. The pizza I was having for dinner got blown away by a passing truck, leaving me standing there in the rain like really?”

Passed through Sam Houston National Forest as it got dark, not wanting to camp in the rain. Got the police called on me (mistaken for a runaway from nearby prisons ), but it all worked out.

And then, a last-minute place to stay, a warm meal, good conversation with a family, and a bed.

Grateful to be moving.

Day 69: 37 miles from Burton to Navasota, TX

Late start, hot and humid, and felt it right away. Left Burton and made my way to Navasota on quiet, scenic country roads.

The miles were beautiful and peaceful. No stops all day, running low on food, a flat tire, and even my water leaking out. Got chased by a guard dog. By the end I was pretty drained, hungry, and thirsty.

Still made it through. Met up with a friend, got a good meal, and finally got some rest.
