BIRDATHON 2025: BIRDERS OF PALESTINE

Feminist Bird Club Durham is excited to join the 2025 Birdathon for Birders of Palestine, birding twins Mandy and Lara Sirdah.

About Birders of Palestine: Our campaign beneficiaries, birders Mandy and Lara Sirdah, were expelled from their home in Gaza due to the ongoing genocide being perpetrated against Palestinians by Israel. Despite the many hardships they are facing, they have continued to document birds - including migratory species still moving across the globe - during their displacement. Their photographs and continued commitment draw attention to the impact of the siege on the natural world.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

  • make a flat donation

OR make a pledge to support our birding efforts by:

  • joining us on our Birders for Palestine outing on 10/18

  • go birding with friends

  • birdwatch from your window or backyard

  • spend time in nature

...or any other ways you can think of - be creative!

JOIN US for a SPECIAL BIRD OUTING on October 18 at Sandy Creek Park in Durham, North Carolina from 8:30 am to 10:30 am where to hope to raise our chapter goal of $500! Attendance to this event is NOT required for participation.

What Is A Birdathon? Traditionally, birdathons prioritize fundraising for bird conservation by having participants form teams and pledge $ for each bird species that they observe. Feminist Bird Club's birdathon brings an inclusive angle to the typical birdathon experience; where traditional birdathons are often only about the number of bird species seen, have strict rules for participation, and can be intimidating or exclusionary (especially to new, disabled or BIPOC birders) our birdathon is for everyone — whether you’re bird-obsessed or just bird-curious! Feminist Bird Club's annual birdathon is one of the only birdathons in the country that’s reframing what it means to participate in a birdathon by explicitly fundraising for social and environmental justice issues (that often have equally significant roles in biodiversity loss!).

Thank you for your support, and stay tuned for birding updates from our team!

You can also support the birders and their families directly by purchasing a print on the Birders of Palestine website. Submit your receipt here and note that your purchase is to support our team's fundraising campaign!
