Let's Walk to Inspire the Future Generation in Underserved Communities Through Engaging STEM Kits
Latinas in STEM (LIS) invites you to our inaugural STEM 101 Walk-a-thon between June 15 and June 30, 2024. We want to make an impact on the the schools, classrooms, and students in underserved communities. We want to inspire the future generation and the future diverse STEM leaders through an engaging STEM experience: STEM 101 Day. Latinas in STEM's STEM 101 day will share STEM kits to every child in a whole grade level.
To increase the participation of Hispanic females in the STEM pipeline, the LIS Foundation began working within Latinx communities nationwide to generate enthusiasm & support for STEM careers. Since 2013, regional collaborations have been established in CA, TX and NJ.
As part of our K-12 programing we are sponsoring classrooms across the US to participate in Latinas in STEM 101 Day. LIS will provide a STEM activity for students to complete that are age/grade appropriate. We will provide a brief curriculum for teachers to share about the activity and can provide volunteers if needed. Additionally, LIS would like to have a volunteer share their My STEM Journey- a brief story about their career in STEM and how they got there.

How It Works
Set a fundraising goal of your choice.
Confirm or estimate how many miles you plan to walk from June 15 to June 30.
Reach out to friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, you personal network to ask them if they are able to support you efforts by donating or pledging. See our Resource page to find creative ways to ask for donations.
Log your miles after your walking activity, whatever it may be, manually from your preferred fitness/health app or connect your Strava account.
