Throw For More
One day, many years ago now, I was coaxed into playing some Disc Golf. It was neat, but a bad mosquito day. A few years later I tried it again. It was even more fun (no mosquitos that day). But both places I had the pleasure of trying out Disc Golf were just far enough away that I couldn't really spend time getting to know the game. And so I didn't touch a disc again for a long time.
Then, one day just a couple of years ago, a brand new course was introduced where we spend most of our summer days. So I was persuaded to try it again, and a new love affair was born.
I could tell you that the sport itself is a lot of fun (which it really is), I could tell you that the sport is challenging (which it really is), or I could tell you it's an incredible feeling the first time you hit that ACE, (which it really really is). But thats not what I want to focus on.
My love for the game...without discounting my other key points...is the time it gives me with my Son! Out in nature, talking, laughing, encouraging each other as we overcome each new hurdle. Bonding over something that we both really enjoy, and something that was so easily accessible for us to take part in. These are times I will never take for granted, and I will certainly never forget.
Finding common ground with a teenager can be very difficult. And keeping them engaged even more so, especially in our world of distractions and instant gratification. I truly can't imagine how different things would be if we hadn't been gifted the local course, it was literally life-changing. If I can do something to make this sport accessible to those that otherwise might never experience it, then sign me up!!!
Thats why I'm taking part here, thats why I throw. To help create new spaces, new opportunities for bonding, fun, and memories...for everyone!
On September 20th, I’ll be playing as many holes as I can to raise funds for the Paul McBeth Foundation, helping introduce the sport of disc golf to communities across the globe. Your support will directly fund new course installations, equipment, and programs that make disc golf accessible where it’s never been before. Every hole I play helps grow the game. Will you join me?

Last year, the energy and commitment we saw was incredible.
And not just from those of us who signed up in advance and committed to a 24-hour marathon. It also came from the families and individuals who happened to arrive at the park without knowing an event was taking place. They jumped right in, threw as much as they could, offered to help, and some even offered to come back in the middle of the night to support us through the final hours in the dark.
That makes me even more excited for this year’s event. People heard about it after last year, we will be spreading the word even more before June, and I know we are going to see that same energy and commitment again.
And as if that were not already reason enough to take part, let’s not forget how much fun we had spending the day meeting new people and helping others discover this amazing sport.
So join us on June 20. If you are new, come learn the sport. If you are already a disc golfer, come share your love of the game with others. And for everyone, help grow the community while helping create these same opportunities around the world through the Paul McBeth Foundation.
