Dear Family and Friends,

I’ll be riding my bike next month raising funds for the non-profit organization Candlelighters for Children with Cancer. I’ll be riding in honor of Lily, a six-year-old identical twin who is battling pre-B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

I chose to support Lily primarily due to two reasons: I have identical twin daughters, and Brian, one of my dear friends from high school, succumbed to cancer a number of years ago. I stay in close contact with his identical twin brother Brad, a friend of 40+ years. Besides the bond a mother has with her children, I don’t think there’s a stronger one than the one twins have. I am really looking forward to meeting Lily and her twin Iris next month at the start of our ride. I’ll be riding for BOTH of them!

How Candlelighters impacted families in 2021:

• $117K in Emergency Financial Assistance distributed to families

• 2,660 hours of programming served 394 families, and 1,253 family members

• 16K+ in mileage provided by Candlelighters hospital gas card program

Candlelighters supports the whole family when a child has cancer. That means activities and groups for parents AND siblings. Meeting other kids who have lost their hair, have ports, or are in wheelchairs can be lifechanging moments for kids with cancer. And for the rest of the family, it can be freeing to let down their guard, and be surrounded by other families who get it. A community that is inclusive of the whole family can provide a new sense of normal for cancer families.
