Support my team in the Great Wisconsin Birdathon!
Birds need our help! North America has lost over 3 billion birds since the 1970s, but we can help #BringBirdsBack. By donating to my page, you're supporting the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin's Bird Protection Fund, which funds Wisconsin's highest priority bird conservation projects.
Your support would mean a lot to me. Birds have made an incredible difference in my life. I began birding with my high school mentor and chosen family. Though at the time I found it frustrating and boring, it taught me to notice the world around me. It taught me to pay attention now, or I would miss the wonder and joy around me. As an adult, I returned to it, and was so lucky to be a part of the Feminist Bird Club community. Birding has improved my mental health, been a consistent source of joy, excitement, serenity, and motivation to get outdoors. It is a peaceful, affordable, and accessible hobby I can do anywhere. Birding truly is spectacular.
Every dollar counts when it comes to helping our birds, so no donation is too small. Thank you for considering!

Bird 119 - sedge wren!
My partner saw 98 bird species on our Colorado trip two weeks ago, including 47 lifers! Alas, that was not in Wisconsin though, so I won't count it. It was still a very exciting time!
Thank you to everyone that donated to support Wisconsin conservation. Happy birding!

More birding updates! We have spent more time at Cherokee Marsh, recently laying eyes on quite a few Eastern Pewees and even a Wood Thrush (after much patience).
For the first time, I heard a yellow-billed cuckoo! I tried to lay eyes on it for 45 minutes, but it eluded me.
Last weekend, my family and I went to George Mead Wildlife Area with the Feminist Bird Club. We had a blast birding all day! We saw quite a few lifers and some old favorites. Although I didn't see it, I heard an eastern meadowlark for the first time this year.
Here are the new birds on my list:
Eastern Pewee
Pileated Woodpecker
Northern Harrier
Bobolink
Clay-colored Sparrow
Ring-necked Gull
American Bittern
Common Loon
Black Tern
Trumpeter Swan
Green-winged Teal
Dunlin
White-rumped Sandpiper
Red-necked Phalarope
Wood Thrush
HO honorable mentions:
Brown thrasher
Yellow-billed cuckoo
Eastern Meadowlark
Sedge Wren
Sora
Field Sparrow

Three more species!
Finally laid eyes on an eastern pee-wee! We also saw bank swallows and about 10 semipalmated sandpipers while out to photograph yellow-headed blackbirds.
This weekend, we will head to central Wisconsin for some more birding. In a week, we head to Colorado for some western birds! Stay tuned!
But also check out this picture we snapped of a gorgeous Red-tailed hawk.

Bird species 100 is a ruby-throated hummingbird! My first sighting of the year - what a delight.

Your Donation Makes a Difference For Birds
Donations made to the Great Wisconsin Birdathon support the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin’s Bird Protection Fund, which has given out over $1.4 million towards Wisconsin’s highest priority bird conservation projects since its inception in 2009.
Whether it's creating Piping Plover habitat, rearing Whooping Crane chicks, spreading awareness about declining songbirds, supporting community initiatives for bird-friendly neighborhoods, engaging new and underrepresented voices in the birding community, building impactful collaborations to protect Wisconsin's Important Bird Areas, or protecting our neotropical migrants on their long migratory journeys to Central America... the Bird Protection Fund is there to help.
Your donations make this work possible. Thank you for supporting on-the-ground conservation and being there #ForTheBirds!
